• Carry your passport and important travel documents at all times wherever you go

• A proper VISA to enter and stay in India & Nepal is a must.

• Do not encourage beggars.

• Don’t trust strangers with money. This is important because many foreigners trust strangers and offer them money. Do not indulge in this.

• Tourists required obtaining a Currency Declaration Form.

• You can cover yourself with travel insurance for thefts, loss and medi-claim.

• It is advisable to ask authorised travel agent to book  airline tickets.

• Carry proper maps of the places proposed to visit in India

• You can also carry books about India that can help you to decide on the destinations you want to visit in case you have planned for medical tourism in India

• Indian climate is hot and humid in most parts. However some of the regions in the north are cold particularly regions near the Himalaya Mountains. Hence carry clothing accordingly.

• Do not forget to carry all your medicines and other necessary items that may not be available in India

• Tourists with a VISA permit for 180 days must acquire a Registration certificate and a residential permit

• There are markets where a lot of bargaining takes place. Hence one should shop and bargain accordingly. Sometimes, guides and drivers often get commissions if you shop. Percentage of commission is depends on your bargaining, as more you bargain they get less commission.

• Be careful about your luggage while you travel in train or in bus because thefts often take place. One should always be aware of pickpockets.

• Always chain and lock your luggage under your berth in a train. Don’t keep anything valuable near the window. There are chances of thefts.

• India is a country with second largest population. Hence it is advisable to book your train, bus, air tickets well in advance as there is always a rush and booking tickets is not so easy due to the demand.

• Always drink safe mineral packaged bottled water and eat hot fresh food.

• Many Indians have the habit of shaking their head in the course of conversation or while taking instructions.

• Indians, out of respect, touch the feet of their elders. Do not show amusement at this.

• India is a religious country. Do not enter a temple, mosque, tomb, dargah or Gurudwara ( Sikh Temple) with shoes on. One should also be decently dressed. One should cover his/her head with a cloth while in a Gurudwara or Dargah.

• It is perfectly safe to travel to India at any time during the year.

• Tourists can book language interpreters and guides. However, English is a commonly understood language in India.

• Indian food is spicy. Try and avoid spicy food, especially if you’re not used to it.

• Local people in India destinations are fairly friendly and helpful.

• All banks in India function from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3pm hours.

• In India, do not photograph women without permission.

• Do not be involved with drugs of any kind.
